Frequently Asked Questions

Simply navigate through the categories on the left hand side or use the search box and type in what you are looking for. Click on the "add" button next to the product and it will add it to your shopping cart. When you have finished shopping, click on "Checkout". If you haven't purchased from the new website before (which went live April '07), you will need to register with us.  Simply click on New Customer button and type in all your details carefully. You will be required to choose a password, of which you must remember for when you want to log back into our site at a later date to place a new order. If you are paying by credit or debit card you will be taken to Protx where you enter your payment details. Alternatively, choose Paypal and log into your Paypal account to arrange payment. You will receive confirmation of your order by e-mail. If you have any order problems, please go to Contact Us at the top right of the page and send us a message - we'll be sure to get straight back to you.

For the United Kingdom, we offer "Standard" and "Next Working Day". "Standard" costs only £1.95 per order under £50.00 and goods are sent using Royal Mail First Class. This is a non-guarenteed service and generally parcels are delivered for next day, however please allow up to seven days for delivery. "Next Working Day" costs £4.95 per order and parcels are sent using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This is a next working day before 1pm service (not weekends) and a signature is required upon receipt of goods. For guitar bodies and other large orders we use TNT next working day service.

Orders over £50.00 qualify for free postage and packing and goods are sent Royal Mail First Class. Should you require a guarenteed delivery then select the "Next Working Day" for £4.95.

For international parcels we use Royal Mail "Airmail" or "International Signed For" depending on the size of the order. Delivery times can vary but generally take about a week.

Yes we certainly do! Once you have chosen all the parts that you wish to order, go to Basket and select the country in the drop down list. This will update the postage cost and provide you with a total amount.

We try our very best to keep every part in stock at all times. The website shows which products are in or out of stock - of which we try to keep up to date daily as best as possible. Of course if we receive lots of orders on a particular item all at once then we may become out of stock of it before we get a chance to update the site. Pickguards tend to be the hardest as we have so many variations. As always, if you need a particular item in a hurry then e-mail us for a confirmed current stock update. You can even request for the part to be put to one side for you. If an item you have ordered is out of stock then we will e-mail you to let you know and will give you the option to put it on back order.

With this, our new website, we can list new products much quicker and easier and so over the next few months you will see a lot more new items appearing. We suggest that you keep checking our HomePage for new products or better still join our free mailing list for all new product announcements. Of course you are more than welcome to drop us an e-mail with your product query - just click on Contact at the top of the page and we'll get straight back to you with an answer!

Yes! You can log into our website using your e-mail address and password to find out the status of your order.  Next to your order, you will see one of the following:

Pending -

This means that we have received your order and it is waiting to be processed, packed and sent by us. Please see "Once I have placed my order, how long will it take to be delivered?" for estimated despatch times.

Sent -

This means that your order has now left us and is on it's way to you. Please see "What delivery methods do you offer?" for a rough delivery estimate.

Awaiting Stock -

This means that we are out of stock of one or more of the item(s) on your order and are awaiting new stock from our suppliers. If you see the Awaiting Stock notice, it means that we have also sent you an e-mail to provide you with an estimated delivery time and, where possible, an alternative product should we think it may be a suitable alternative.

If you place an order Monday - Friday before 3.30pm we aim to send it out the same day for next day delivery. If the order is placed after 3.30pm it will be sent out the next working day. Orders placed on weekends or public bank holidays will be processed and despatched when we re-open on the next working day. If you order something that is out of stock, we will notify you by e-mail. You can chose to either back order the part, chose an alternative item or cancel.

Please note that we cannot accept visitors to our premises. Being a mail order company and not an actual shop we have to concentrate on answering phones and e-mails and getting orders packed and sent. This leaves us with very little time to do anything else! Thank you for your understanding.

We do have some left handed pickguards but don't currently list them on the site because we don't hold that many in stock. Any pickguard that you do see on the site can be made left handed so please feel free to contact us for a stock update.

Unfortunately these instruments do not always adhere to the correct pickguard shapes and so our U.S. and Mexican fit guards don't always line up. Sometimes it is just the outer screw hole placement that is different but more often than not it is the pick-up, neck and bridge slots and even the outer shape that is different - resulting in a lot of pickguard filing and re-drilling of screw holes in your guitar body! There is a much better alternative however - we offer a custom pickguard service. We request a very accurate and to-scale outline of your existing guard on a sheet of paper, with all screw holes and slots clearly drawn. Send the outline to us and we'll get it made for you in any of the pickguard colours you see on our site. Please contact us for a price quote. Delivery times are generally about one to two weeks from receipt of your outline.

We require a very accurate and to scale outline of the guard, with all screw holes and slots clearly indicated. We scan your outline in to a computer and get a CNC machine to cut it so your outline will need to be very accurate. Here's how to produce a tracing -

1) Please use only a clean, sharp-pointed writing instrument such as a pencil, pen, or fine tip roller pen. Do NOT use magic markers or anything with a wide tip.

2) Please trace carefully, top side up, on a piece of paper (standard printer/copier paper is recommended. Do NOT use napkins, tracing paper, corrugated cardboard, etc. Also, faxes and photocopies are not acceptable as they can distort the shape and size.

3) Please do NOT cut out the tracing once completed.

REMEMBER:

•Your custom guard can only be as good as your tracing, so take your time and follow the above instructions, as custom pickguards are NOT returnable.

•Please remember to indicate the colour of the pickguard that you're requesting and provide contact information for yourself so that we may notify you of the cost of your custom guard.

No matter which cutting method is employed there are a few things to consider. First of all you must use safety glasses. Protect the back of the material from scratching as it is laid on the work surface. It is recommended that you use a scroll saw (not a sabre saw) for the initial cuts, making sure to use a fine blade to eliminate chatter. Pickup openings can be started by drilling a hole to position the blade inside the cut. Drilling should be done with Brad-Point Spur bits. Finish work will can be done with a Dremel tool, files and finally sandpaper. All of the materials that are made from Acrylic (Mirrors, Spider Web, Skull 'n' Bones, Flag designs) are difficult to work with hand tools but not impossible and we advise that you practise on a piece of scrap first. Alternatively take the material to a local guitar builder who can carry the work out for you.

Naturally, it depends on which parts are being fitted to the instrument. Two areas that we get asked about most are fitting and setting up a new neck and installing a new top nut for it.

NECKS: All of our necks are shipped with frets already installed. Some players (particularly those who favour a low string action) may find that their neck would benefit from a fret level, crowning and polish to reduce fret buzz and improve playability. This is not considered a defect of the product. We recommend that a qualified guitar luthier carry the work out for you if you are unsure about fret dressing the neck yourself as it can be a time consuming process which requires knowledge and skill.

TOP NUTS: Most of our replacement top nuts that we sell are shaped to fit the intended instrument, however please note that you may find that some sand paper is required to reduce the overall size of the nut so that it fits perectly into the slot in the neck.

To cut the string slots in the nut, you will need a set of our nut files, or some needle files, available from a hardware store. Even the pre-slotted Graph Tech nuts may require the slots to be made a little deeper if the strings sit too far away from the fingerboard. Again, these processes are normal when it comes to fitting a new nut. Not only are there so many neck variations on the market to cater for but also each and every player has their own set-up preferences. Therefore it is best to fine tune the nut for the instrument that it is going on to. If you are unsure about carrying the workout yourself, then we suggest getting the work done by a qualified guitar luthier.
