a vast improvement on the fender player series tuners.
smooth and accurate, very happy.
I bought the nickel variant of these tuners as direct replacements for the stock tuners on my old American Series Strat. I made the swap primarily for aesthetic reasons - the hex keys and the chrome finish of the stock tuners has always bugged me - I think they really detract from the look of the guitar.
With their nickel finish and oval buttons, these tuners look much better on the headstock. Clearly with the nut and washer on the front of the headstock they don't look entirely 'vintage', however to achieve a more vintage look in this respect would require conversion bushings and, more importantly, tuners that are secured on the rear via screws - which means drilling holes into the headstock. I didn't want to make new holes so I went with these instead. Also, frankly, the modern design with the locating pins (hidden under the rear of the tuner) and the securing nut on the front is more robust and better engineered than the vintage design.
Likewise the tuning key 'stalks' here are thicker vs. vintage tuners, but again that is indicative of their superior build quality - for me the tuning action feels more solid with these guys vs vintage-style tuners.
The gear ratio feels slightly higher than some Strat tuners, making it easier to tune accurately, however of course a few more turns are required to wind a new string onto the post.
Time will tell whether they're build to last, but they feel solid enough so here's hoping. Slightly expensive, but given the results I'm pleased so far.
